A United, Strong Voice for Canada’s Language Training Industry

Over the past 6 years, support, suggestions and encouragement from Dept. of Canadian Heritage, Industry Canada, DFAIT and CEC Network have helped to keep the vision of one language training association for Canada alive.

PROCESS: Fall, 2006 – February, 2007: a Joint Task Force explored the potential for bringing the strengths and expertise of the two language training associations together.

Fall, 2007: CAPLS and CLC voted to create a new association that would include all of their public, private, English and French accredited language training program members.

A Year in Review

  • Steering Committee: struck with equal representation from both associations and a representative
    from AILIA.
  • Membership: approved the bylaws and definitive agreement that would result in the incorporation of the new association by March, 2008.
  • Accreditation: by March, 2008, all programs must have successfully completed CLC accreditation as a condition of membership.

Next Steps

CAPLS and CLC to complete the transfer to LANGUAGES CANADA of:

  • all assets
  • all existing accredited members
  • the ownership rights to current association names
  • Steering Committee now focused on preparing for first meeting in March 2008.
  • Working together with the government departments which so strongly supported this union.
  • Marketing the new association in Canada and at various marketing events
