
AS FEDS OPT OUT OF IN-HOUSE LANGUAGE TRAINING THEY MUST USE ACCREDITED PROGRAMS FOR ENGLISH AND FRENCH LANGUAGE EDUCATION
January 25, 2012...As recently reported in various media around the country, the federal government is getting out of the business of providing in-house language training to its employees. Generally speaking, about 40 per cent of all federal jobs are designated bilingual and the remaining 60 per cent are English or French essential. Fortunately, Languages Canada, a not-for-profit association, offers more than 170 accredited English and French language education programs, in both the public and private sectors across the country, with 76 member programs in Ontario and Quebec alone.
"In an otherwise strong economy, it's a real shame to see the federal government put close to 180 teachers and instructors out of work," says Calum MacKechnie, President of Languages Canada. "Fortunately, Languages Canada offers a strong alternative for English and French language education, with programs that meet very rigorous accreditation standards in curricula and instruction."
