The new Languages Canada Association was successfully launched in Ottawa on March 5, 2008. 150 representatives from the former CAPLS and CLC organizations joined together at the inaugural three-day event.

The Association is pleased to announce that the inaugural Board of Directors at the first Annual General Meeting includes representatives from public and private, English and French programs across the country, as well as representatives from the Steering Committee of the two former associations (see list below).

Calum MacKechnie, Director of the English Language Institute at York University, was elected by the Board to take on a leadership role as the first President of the Association. “The formation of Languages Canada is a huge step forward in the international promotion of Canada’s English and French as a Second language training sector. With a mandate to establish a consistent level of high caliber language training options in public and private institutions across the country, we are confident that our reputation and position in the competitive global market place will be greatly enhanced in the months and years ahead.”
