Languages Canada applauds the appointment of the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean as Secretary General of La Francophonie

Languages Canada, the association representing Canada’s 227 accredited French and English language education programs, congratulates the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean for her appointment as the Secretary General of l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.

“Languages Canada, the country’s language education sector representative, is very pleased that the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean was unanimously selected to lead l’OIF. We are confident that she will be a strong ally to our association and will help promote Canada’s language education sector internationally,” explained Gonzalo Peralta, Executive Director of Languages Canada.

In recent weeks, Languages Canada joined the governments of Canada, Québec and New Brunswick to support Mme Jean’s candidacy for this position. It is with great pride that we welcome the first Canadian to lead l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, which represents more than 270 million Francophones.

Languages Canada is a not-for-profit association representing 227 language education member programs across Canada that offer accredited English and French programs from both the public and private sectors.
