Established in 1936 and located in the city of Nanaimo on Canada’s magnificent West Coast, Vancouver Island University (VIU) is a public university offering over 200 programs in popular areas of study like Business, Tourism, Sport and Recreation and Hospitality; Humanities, Social Sciences and Education; Sciences, Computers and Technology; and Art, Design and Performing Arts. The large number of programs ensures that VIU offers education that will launch a student into a successful career.
Each year, over 14,000 new and returning learners, including over 2,000 international students, choose VIU for their education. VIU’s inspirational setting, small class sizes and hands-on research, offers students the opportunity to experience the best of both educational activities and student life.
VIU welcomes a wide variety of international students from all over the world. Currently we have students from over 90 countries represented at VIU. To ensure the best possible experiences for these international students we offer a number of services dedicated to their needs. This includes international student advising, a homestay program, student residences, recreational activities and more.
Vancouver Island University encourages all students to explore their potential, discover more about their world and excel in both life and learning. VIU is committed to ensuring that students are supported, engaged and encouraged to excel in whatever they choose to do. Students have always been and remain VIU’s number one priority.
In 2018 VIU was honoured to be named a finalist in the prestigious Global Teaching Excellent Awards, one of only two Canadian universities to make the list. With award-winning faculty and small class sizes (maximum 34 students per class), each student receives a high quality education and the personal attention needed to learn.
A global education offered in one of the most scenic and prosperous areas of the world is the right choice to begin a student’s career in their chosen profession. Let VIU start that adventure.
