Luis Piedmont

Luis Piedmont holds 22 years of experience in three Canadian Federal Government departments, including 12 years at Global Affairs Canada. Since 2021, he has been in the position of Second Secretary and Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada in Brasilia, responsible for education, agriculture and science technology and innovation in the Centre-West region of Brazil.

In Ottawa, Luis held various positions with a focus on international trade, previously working as Senior Commercial Desk Officer for Brazil in the South America Division and Senior Commercial Desk Officer for various European countries in the Division for Commercial Relations with the European Union and EFTA countries. Previous to that, he also worked in trade policy and FTA negotiations with the Investment Trade Policy Division and Trade Remedies Divisions, taking part in FTA negotiations with Costa Rica, as well as helping to conclude Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (FIPAs) with various West and Central Africa countries. In addition, he previously worked for the Investment Cooperation Program (INC) providing assistance to Canadian companies wishing to establish joint venture and subsidiary operations abroad.

Luis holds a master’s degree in Local Economic Development from the London School of Economics, a Graduate Diploma in Management from McGill University and a B.A. in Economics and History from the University of British Columbia. He speaks English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
