Languages Canada Announces Chia Suan Chong as Opening Speaker for 17th Annual Conference Academic Leadership and Program Innovation Stream

The Languages Canada 17th Annual Conference, taking place in Vancouver, February 28–March 2, 2024, will feature international presenters in four engaging program streams:

  • Academic Leadership and Program Innovation
  • Management and Sector Issues
  • Marketing and Recruitment
  • Student Experience and Welfare

We are excited to announce that renowned author Chia Suan Chong will open the Academic Leadership and Program Innovation stream with her presentation, Helping Students Become Successful International Communicators, sponsored by National Geographic Learning.

Participants in this session will learn about the skills students need to communicate successfully with people who are different from themselves, and the ways we can prepare them for the increasingly international environments that they will need to thrive in when they leave the classroom. Chia will use storytelling, reflection and discussion activities to help instructors and administrators examine key global competencies.

Chia Suan Chong is a writer, communication skills trainer and a teacher trainer. She is the author of Successful International Communication, where she presented her ADAPT model as a framework for dealing with intercultural conflict. Delivering both online and face-to-face training to teachers and learners around the globe, Chia specializes in interactive workshops that encourage reflection for more effective international communication and improved collaboration. Currently based in York, Chia was English Teaching Professional’s award-winning resident blogger between 2012 and 2019. She has contributed extensively to the British Council Learn English website and holds a DELTA and a Masters in Applied Linguistics and ELT. Chia is a co-author for VOICES, an integrated skills series by National Geographic Learning for adult learners of English.

The full conference program is in development and we’ll have more exciting presentation news to share with you in the coming weeks!
