Sector in Canada

Canada is renowned for its language duality and world-class education. Staying on top of new sector developments is essential for language education professionals. As Canada’s language education sector representative, we strive to keep all members and stakeholders informed, engaged and up-to-date about what’s happening in our field across the country.

What is Language Education?

  • Languages Canada accredited programs teach Canada’s two official languages, English and French, to Canadian and international students. Language education in Canada attracts top international students from all over the world to study in communities across our country. We introduce students to Canada’s languages, culture, values and way of life.
  • Language programs are uniquely structured. Since students arrive with different language levels and needs, there are multiple options available to them. Some students will learn quickly, while others will take more time. Language programs are offered for stays as short as two weeks. Other students stay for a year or more, depending on their needs.
  • A wide diversity of programs cater to different objectives. Some students come here for educational tourism. Some students want to go on to study at one of Canada’s world-class universities and colleges. Others want to integrate into Canadian life and the workforce.
  • These programs do not operate on traditional semesters, and there are no diplomas. Educators assess the level of language proficiency the student needs to enter post-secondary education programs, the workforce or to apply for landed immigrant status.
