Languages Canada Inbound Trade Mission and FAM Tour with Mexican Education Agents: A Valuable Experience for LC Members and Their Partners

Languages Canada held an Inbound Trade Mission and FAM Tour with Mexican education agents from March 19 to 26, 2022. Languages Canada members representing all membership segments – English and French, private schools, and public colleges and universities – were joined by several CAPS-I (Canadian Association of Public Schools – International) and CiCan (Colleges and Institutes Canada) members, for a total of 32 institutions, at the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac hotel in Quebec City, where Canadian representatives had the chance to showcase their programs and services to an audience of decision-makers from more than 30 of Mexico’s top education agencies as well as the Secretariat of Education of the State of Mexico.

Visiting Mexican agents had the opportunity to enjoy Quebec City, one of Canada’s most charming locales, experiencing a traditional québécois sugar shack meal, as well as an unforgettable visit to the only ice hotel in North America, before launching into a B2B marathon with Canadian participants. More than 1,000 meetings took place over two days, in addition to panel presentations Quebec as a Study Destination and Study Destinations in Canada – Beyond MTV.

Adriana Billard, Marketing Director at MexiCanada agency, told us ‘’This was the first event I attended where all segments of education in Canada were present. And I got to actually know and meet new partners while enjoying the beautiful scenery and first-hand experience promoting the destinations within Canada and live-streaming to our clients in Mexico’’.

Mexican partners also had a session dedicated to the Canadian K12 and public college systems presented by Bonnie McKie (CAPS-I) and Andrew Champagne (CiCan), while Canadian institutions were offered a presentation by AMTE, the Mexican Association of Educational Tourism, which provided an overview of the current state of affairs in Mexico and the perspective of families looking for study programs in Canada. Duolingo English Test also offered a presentation titled Innovation in International Admissions - The Digital First DET.

‘’It was great to connect with all the Georgian College and Georgian@ILAC existing and future partners in Mexico during the Languages Canada Inbound Trade Mission in Quebec City. Thank you to the LC Team for organizing this excellent and productive event.’’, said César Balbuena, Director, International Education and Development at Georgian College, while Magdalena Link, VP External Development - ILAC Higher Education called the mission a “Great event!”

On Wednesday, after campus visits of LC members Edu-Inter and Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-La-Pocatière, the group of Mexican agents flew to Toronto for the 2-day FAM Tour portion of the event, during which they visited LC members Academy of Learning Career College, Oxford International, the Trent University Durham GTA campus, ICEAP North York, the Real Institute (Ryerson University), and ILSC.

‘’Merci beaucoup Languages Canada! It was fantastic to meet in gorgeous Quebec City with an energetic group of agents and educational providers. After two years, I was able to connect with my agents and spend a lovely time building a relationship that will result in more Mexican students choosing Canada as their study destination.’’, said Esmeralda Velázquez, Mexico Sales Manager at ILSC Education Group.

A final highlight of the event for Mexican agents was a dinner at 360 Restaurant, at the top of the CN Tower, hosted by ICEAP Nova Scotia and Cape Breton University.

Diego Sanchez, Languages Canada's Director of International Affairs, said: "This is our second inbound trade mission and FAM tour of 2022, and we are extremely pleased to be able to deliver tailored and targeted events of the highest quality for our members and their partners. We have more events in the works, so stay tuned!"
