New IDP Connect Survey Shows Canada Remains International Students’ Preferred Destination

The view ahead for Canada’s language programs just got brighter thanks to survey data recently released by IDP Connect!

International Students Crossroads V, which surveyed 4,000 international students from 20 countries around the world in July 2021, shows Canada tops the list of preferred destinations, and a majority of students are already, or soon to be, fully vaccinated.

"Almost 60% of international students interested in studying in Canada are fully vaccinated and an additional 33% will get their vaccines as soon as they can, according to research released today. Additionally, 83% are willing to quarantine upon arrival to ensure safety on campus."

IDP Connect's key takeaways from the research:

  • A significant number of incoming students have been vaccinated, with many others willing to do so whether before travelling to their destination country or upon arrival
  • Students are not only willing to quarantine: they are flexible about where they do so and not put off by having to cover costs themselves
  • Demand remains strong for destinations that are open and welcoming to students
"Canada policy makers and educators should be commended for how they have shown care for students, visitors and citizens. This research demonstrates students are showing increased loyalty towards Canada as their destination. This is something the Canada sector can be very proud of."

Based on their research, IDP Connect have formulated these recommendations for government and post-secondary institutions:

  • Communicate when and how courses will be delivered, including schedules for transitioning from online to face-to-face
  • Support students with information and advice on how they can safely arrive in the destination country and travel to campus
  • Share details of student access to vaccinations upon arrival
