Welcoming Partners from Mexico: Highlights from Our 2026 Inbound Trade Mission

A highly successful trade mission took place, March 15-21, 2026, as part of Languages Canada’s ongoing efforts to promote its members to Mexican partners and strengthen existing agreements. The initiative brought renewed momentum to Canada–Mexico collaboration in language education and reinforced the country’s position as a top destination for Mexican students.

Strengthening Partnerships Through Collaboration

Organized in partnership with AMTE (Association of Mexican Agencies), the mission convened 24 representatives from 20 agencies across Mexico for a full day of B2B meetings with 18 Canadian institutions. The program also featured a series of school and campus visits in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, offering participants a firsthand look at the breadth of educational opportunities available in Canada.

This initiative was made possible thanks to the solid collaborative relationship between Languages Canada and AMTE, as well as the invaluable support of Air Canada’s team in Mexico City, whose contribution enabled participants to experience multiple destinations across the country within a single trip.

The Trade Commissioner Service of Canada in Mexico also played an important role in the success of the mission. Trade Commissioner Veronica Soto from Guadalajara attended the B2B sessions, providing personalized market insights and guidance to participating Canadian institutions.

Mexico: A Key Market for Canadian Language Education

Mexico remains one of the top five source markets for Languages Canada members delivering English and French language programs. Despite past challenges related to visa processing, Mexican education agents continue to demonstrate strong interest in sending students to Canada.

This sustained demand was a key driver behind the size and engagement of the delegation. The mission sought to strengthen relationships with leading Canadian institutions and deepen agents’ understanding of recruitment and application best practices, particularly in supporting strong study permit submissions and well-prepared Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications for short-term programs.

A High‑Impact Day of B2B Engagement

A total of 360 individual meetings took place during an intensive and productive day of B2B engagement. Canadian institutions represented the full breadth of the country, allowing Mexican partners to explore a wide range of programs and destinations.

The offerings presented included summer programs, high school education, English and French language training, pathway programs, and undergraduate studies at both the college and university levels. This diversity reflects the varied needs of Mexican students and equips agents to better match learners with the right Canadian programs.

Immersive Visits Across Alberta and British Columbia

Following the B2B program, Mexican partners travelled across Alberta and British Columbia to experience the facilities, programs, and student life offered by Languages Canada members.

In Calgary, the delegation visited the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Global Village English, and Mount Royal University.

In Edmonton, they were warmly welcomed by NorQuest College and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).

In British Columbia, the group toured the new downtown Vancouver campuses of ILSC Education Group and Greystone College, as well as Oxford International.

They also explored Langara College and Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). During these visits, Mexican partners engaged directly with current Mexican students, who shared their personal experiences, motivations for choosing Canada, and insights to help future students prepare for their studies abroad.

For many participating agents, most of whom were visiting Alberta for the first time, the experience was particularly impactful. They returned home with a stronger sense of confidence and familiarity with the destination, and better equipped to advise prospective students and families.

Showcasing Canada’s Academic Excellence

Canadian institutions showcased world‑class facilities across a wide range of disciplines, including health and wellness, robotics and artificial intelligence, tourism and hospitality, and design. Partners also participated in workshops led by faculty members, gaining firsthand insight into classroom delivery and academic expectations.

Delegates were given access to laboratories and learned about co‑op and internship opportunities available to students pursuing undergraduate programs after completing their language studies. At KPU, for example, the group engaged with more than 10 faculty members across five departments, gaining a deeper understanding of the institution’s diverse academic pathways.

Overall, the visits provided an immersive and valuable experience, enabling Mexican partners to return home with a clearer understanding of the breadth and quality of educational opportunities available in Canada.

Acknowledging Key Partners

Languages Canada was honoured to welcome AMTE President Perla Payán, who addressed the delegation on behalf of the association’s membership and expressed her appreciation for the initiative and the strengthening of bilateral ties.

The association was also pleased to count on the longstanding support of GuardMe International Insurance. Tony Rogge (Director Strategic Partnerships, Canada) attended the mission and highlighted the many ways GuardMe supports Mexican students throughout their studies in Canada.

This initiative was supported by BCCIE (British Columbia Council for International Education), ABIE (Alberta Bureau for International Education), CBIE (the Canadian Bureau of International Education) and CiCan (Colleges and Institutes Canada) reflecting a strong pan‑Canadian commitment to strengthening educational ties with Mexico.

Languages Canada extends its sincere gratitude to Air Canada and its Mexico City office, whose support was instrumental in making this trade mission possible. Their generous contribution enabled the Mexican delegation to travel to Canada and experience firsthand the offerings of member institutions across multiple regions.

This initiative was also supported by the Global Affairs Canada CanExport – Associations program, as well as the Trade Commissioners at the Embassy of Canada to Mexico and the Consulate General of Canada in Guadalajara.

Looking Ahead

Languages Canada’s next 2026 trade missions will target partners in Chile and France, continuing the association’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration and promoting Canada as a world‑leading destination for language education.
