Ottawa, April 28, 2017 - This year, Languages Canada represented the Canadian language education sector at ICEF Vancouver from April 23rd to 25th.  Agents attended the seminar “Quality Assurance in Language Education in Canada” presented by Charbel Moreno, Manager, International Affairs and Marketing. The Canada Course for Education Agents was also presented.

OTTAWA, ON – April 19, 2017 – Languages Canada is pleased to announce that Renato Medeiros da Fonseca Jr., recipient of the second Languages Canada IsM (Idiomas sim Fronteiras) Scholarship has arrived in Peterborough, Ontario where he will spend a month with Trent-ESL conducting research on their English for Academic purposes program. Renato is an English language instructor at Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) in Brazil.  

Vancouver, March 30, 2017 - As you may be aware, there have been some substantial developments with the schools under KGIC Inc. (formerly known as the Loyalist Group).  You will find a link to the press release announcing the completion of the purchase of KGIC assets by CIBT Education Group Inc. The transaction closed on March 29, 2017.  We are pleased that Sprott Shaw Language College (SSLC) will assume the teach-out responsibilities of the students at PGIC, KGIC and SEC as well as honouring the commitments of the future students of Cornerstone Academic College which was closed by the Receiver on February 28^th.  

Ottawa, March 21, 2017 - Languages Canada signed an agreement with the State of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil, whereby both sides declared their intent to cooperate to promote English language learning. The contracts include the commitment from both sides to collaborate on joint internationalization programs and to foster closer ties between Canadian and Brazilian students, educators, and institutions. 

Ottawa, March 17, 2017 - This year, Languages Canada says goodbye to two longstanding board members as they complete several successive terms on the Languages Canada Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Through their varied roles, they have contributed immensely to the success of our association, helping to advance public and private sector interests and bring more visibility to the Canadian English and French language education sector.

Ottawa, March 15, 2017 - Languages Canada is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Cath D’Amico (Trent University – ESL Program) as President of Languages Canada.  LC also welcomes three new members to both the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors: Biba Fakhouri (Université de Montréal) as Vice-President, David Matthews (ILSC Language Schools – Vancouver) as Treasurer, and Gary Gervais (Heartland International English).

Quebec, March 1, 2017 -- From February 26 to March 1, 2017, Languages Canada, held its 10th annual conference at the Fairmont Château Frontenac in beautiful Quebec City. Our conference provided the opportunity to come together to hear the voices of our valued member programs. It is a time when we review and reflect on the past year and plan for the future. Over 160 delegates, including LC member representatives, stakeholders, government officials, NGOs, and international education service providers attended the event. 

Ottawa, March 3, 2017– On February 28, 2017, the receiver in charge of Cornerstone Language School decided to end the school’s operations. Since the problem arose, Languages Canada, its members and employees have been hard at work to minimize any inconvenience that students may suffer.

Quebec City, February 27, 2017 – Canada’s largest language education association, Languages Canada, and Sentio, Global Education Network, a subsidiary of AFS Intercultural Programs, an international, voluntary, non-governmental, non-profit organization that provides intercultural learning opportunities, are proud to announce a mutually beneficial partnership. 

ITALY, January 30 – February 1, 2017: Languages Canada brought fifteen members – representing Universities, Colleges, and private sector language programs – to Milan, Italy to meet with nearly 30 agencies representing Italy, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland and Slovakia. During the event, participating members had the opportunity to meet with Trade Commissioner Paola Bucalossi and Immigration officer Sarah Erlichman of the Embassy of Canada to Rome, who delivered a valuable presentation about the Italian market and business opportunities for Canadian institutions. Members also had the option of joining a tour to meet with local universities following the official trade mission activities. 

COLOMBIA, November 21-23, 2016 - Languages Canada brought 15 members – representing universities, colleges, and private sector language programs – to Bogotá, Colombia to meet with nearly 30 agencies representing Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama. At the opening reception, participating members had the opportunity to meet with Donald Bobiash, Ambassador of Canada to Colombia, as well as representatives from local universities and institutions who are involved in internationalization of language education. Members also had the option of joining a city tour following the official trade mission activities.

BOSTON, MA (USA) November 21, 2016 - Languages Canada, in cooperation with la Délégation du Québec à Boston, participated at the 2016 Annual Convention and World Languages Expo of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) from November 18 to 20. 

OTTAWA, November 17, 2016 - The final report for the 2^nd Canada-Brazil Language, Education, and Workforce Forum held in São Paulo, Brazil on March 21-22, 2016 is now available. The report is available in English, French and Portuguese.

MONTREAL, October 28, 2016 - On October 27, the third edition of the Exchange Forum on French as a Second and Foreign Language  was held at the LaSalle College of Montreal. The event drew approximately forty private- and public-sector stakeholders involved in teaching French as a second language, Languages Canada members and non-members, as well representatives from the  Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur, the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie and Francophone representatives from Canada and abroad.

OTTAWA, October 20, 2016 - This week, Languages Canada Executive Director, Gonzalo Peralta, spoke to UK-based publication, StudyTravel Magazine, about the association's activities, government lobbying and market trends. He commented on the association’s efforts to ensure that Canada remains competitive compared to other language learning destinations, the results from the 2015 LC Annual Survey to members and the upcoming trade missions for 2016-17. He concludes by saying that without a pan-Canadian approach to international education, student numbers will decline.

OTTAWA, October 19, 2016 - Languages Canada is pleased to be able to share with you a study on international education in Canada, commissioned by Global Affairs Canada and released on October 19, 2016. The study, conducted by Roslyn Kunin and Associates (RKA), assesses the economic impact of international students studying in Canada. The sections titled “Languages Canada Short Term Students” were based on numbers provided by Languages Canada thanks to our annual survey of member programs.
