Release of 2018 Annual Report on Language Education in Canada

Languages Canada is pleased to announce the release of the 2018 Annual Report on Language Education in Canada.

Previous iterations of this report were titled the Languages Canada Annual Survey Report. This year’s new title is reflective of the continuous improvement of the survey and report, which have evolved from when the association first started collecting data from members 10 years ago. 

Languages Canada conducts mission to meet with agents from Canada’s 9th largest source country for international students.

Languages Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Association of Public Schools – International (CAPS-I), brought together fourteen Canadian education institutions and fourteen Iranian agencies to Istanbul, Turkey on the first ever LC mission focused on Iran.

10 LC members and two CAPS-I members participated, representing Canadian universities, colleges, private sector language programs, and public school boards. The full-day event included close to 200 B2B meetings.

Languages Canada secures $100,000 for members through CanExport - Associations Program

Languages Canada has been awarded a $256,000 grant from the CanExport – Associations Program (formerly known as Global Opportunities for Associations) in support of the association’s international business development efforts in 2019-2020.

Languages Canada's Executive Director's opinion on the Federal budget

Languages Canada is very pleased with Minister Morneau’s attention to international education in the budget and the government’s clear support for our sector.  The $147.9 million (Cdn) over five years to support promotion and outbound student mobility demonstrates that the government is listening to the sector in terms of strategic direction.  The ongoing $8 million per year afterwards is an initial commitment to long term investment and a recognition that the sector is here to stay.

Recap of the LC 2019 Annual Conference

The Languages Canada 12th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting took place in Winnipeg from February 25th to 27th, kicking off the Year of International Education in Manitoba. Over 150 delegates attended, including LC members, national and international partners, provincial and federal government and education representatives and international education service providers.

Record number of international language students reported in 2017 – Languages Canada Annual Survey

Nearly 150,000 students enrolled in Languages Canada (LC) member programs in 2017, up 10% from 135,425 in the previous year. Overall student weeks also increased, from 1.5 million in 2016 to 1.61 million in 2017.

Nearly  8000 International Students Celebrate their Stay and their Education in Canada
